Ophthalmology Ltd. | Eye Care Facts & Myths

Seeing clearly starts with Knowing the facts

At Ophthalmology Limited, we believe your care begins long before you sit in the exam chair. It starts with what you know, and sometimes, what you think you know. So, let’s clear the air and debunk a few common myths about your eyes.

Eye Care Facts & Myths

Myth: Reading in dim light will ruin your eyesight.

Fact: Nope. It might make your eyes work harder or feel tired, but it won’t cause any long-term damage. Your eyes are adaptable. Just take a break when they start feeling strained.

Myth: Wearing glasses makes your vision worse over time.

Fact: Not true. Glasses help your eyes focus—they don’t weaken them. If your prescription changes, that’s due to natural shifts in your vision, not the glasses themselves.

Myth: Staring at a screen all day will permanently damage your eyes.

Fact: While screen time can lead to eye strain and dryness, it won’t cause permanent harm. Blink more, take breaks, and follow the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds).

Myth: Sitting too close to the TV will damage your eyes.

Fact: It might look a little intense, but it won’t hurt your eyes. Children, in particular, may sit closer simply because it helps them see better, but they’re not doing any harm.

Myth: Carrots give you super sight.

Fact: Carrots are a great source of vitamin A, which is important for eye health. But no amount of carrots (or any food) will reverse conditions like nearsightedness or eliminate the need for glasses.

Myth: Eye exams aren’t necessary unless you notice a problem.

Fact: Many eye issues develop gradually and without symptoms. Regular exams help catch problems early – sometimes before you even notice them.
